"All relevant major players in the drugstore sector are doing it already, and now the market leader in Germany, dm, has gone online as well. A real signal for all other branches too!”
Frank Lüttjohann, CSO Sales Trade
The drugstore chain dm is to open its own online shop offering a click & collect function in early summer 2015. Using the internet, customers will then be able to access virtually the complete product range offered by over 1,600 stores. dm is late to take this step: their competitor Rossmann has been online for a long time now, as have the drugstore chains Müller and Budnikowsky.
The example of dm shows that click & collect is now well established. The largest drugstore concern in Europe has now also realised the advantages of collecting goods ordered online in store: increased customer traffic at the PoS, customer loyalty and cross-selling potential. Slowly but surely it is time for all retail stores to create a strong online presence, providing an option for placing orders online.
The click & collect option can be selected during the order process, with all products selected in the dm online shop able to be delivered free of charge to any store. If goods are delivered to the customer’s home, postage costs are incurred.
The competition has been offering a similar service for some time now: Rossmann charges postage costs for home delivery in its own online store as well, but does not offer the option of collecting in store. Müller, on the other hand, only offers the option of placing an order using click & collect.
