BOOK "THE CONNECTED STORE" ENGAGES IN CURRENT DISCUSSION ABOUT FUTURE OF RETAIL STORES

The over-the-counter retail is facing major changes. Consumer behavior is changing and we all buy more and more online. In the process, traditional retail is coming under increasing pressure and the aggressive approach of Internet companies like Amazon has devastating consequences especially for the small and medium-sized business. My book "The connected store", which will be available in bookstores and also online from 5 October, uses the example of the mobile communications industry to show in which direction retailers should be going.

NEW POSITIONING FOR BRICK-AND-MORTAR SHOPS

When I began writing my book "The connected store" in November 2014, I already knew that a lot of work would come to me: to write a book that is both easy to read and in addition also deals with the subject of "The connected store" on the basis of a verifiable track record. It is important to create a new positioning for over-the-counter retail and to illustrate how the components consisting of stationary business and e-commerce create a satisfying customer experience in the connected store. Using the example of the mobile industry, the book shows how connected stores will turn online shopping into a regional matter in the future and how customers will benefit from the combination of both channels. The large chains know this and are already thinking of creating cross-channel offerings for the customers. But we must not forget medium-sized retailers. Due to limited resources they can not help themselves and are dependent on the support of cooperations and distributors. In the book "The connected store" I explain where exactly the difference between online and offline is and why online has such a great attractiveness. Furthermore, I also show through which technical systems Brodos has caught up with the connected store and how retailers can easily surpass the services of the major online pure players. The brodos.net kiosk with its huge assortment and the Online Kiosk (Online Store), which makes the retailer’s products visible on the Internet, are certainly the key elements.

I am happy to announce that the final version of the book is already in print and that we have already received some positive statements for the preprint. From 5 October on "The connected store" will be available in bookstores and online. Let’s not forget the most important aspect: A big thank you goes especially to my hard-working colleagues, friends and reviewers who have contributed a substantial part to the fact that the book was completed in such a short time.
